- Deinococcus Radiodurans
- First found in 1956 by A. W. Anderson
- In a can of spoiled meat that was sterilized with radiation
- Obligate Aerobe
- Non-pathogenic
- One of the toughest bacterias known
- Can withstand 3,000 times the amount of radiation that it would take to kill a human.
- Can withstand lots of dehydration
- Can be found everywhere
- Used to clean up radioactive waste
- Could have originated on Mars
- Gram positive
- Earliest signs f this bacteria date back to about 2 billion years ago, making it one of the world’s oldest organisms.
